SKILLS 101
My desire with this resource page is to provide clients a place to quickly find resources to intentionally practice what we learn in session. This is not intended to replace therapy or working with a therapist.
Skills work is really “therapy”, like physical therapy, where you have to slowly retrain your muscles to be well and healthy. Skills work enables us to slowly, with intention, and repetition, change our neuropathways in our brain to think differently and behave in new ways. Skills work is work and it works! I hope you find this space encouraging and helpful on your journey.
IMPORTANT: It is very import to notice what is happening in your body when you are trying new skills. If at any point something feels uncomfortable for you, gently stop. I suggest bringing up this experience with your counselor and you can, together, find skills that work best for you.
